Summary:The professional and organizational conventions on which journalistic practices are based generate, in addition to a routine system of activities for the production of information, a complex set of discursive rules for the legitimization of reports as "news." Such rules have an ideological nature that creates assumptions about reality, journalists use them to confront certain aspects of events and thus give them their news quality.From an empirical approach based on a sociological study on local journalism, this text seeks to articulate a comprehensive interpretation about how the actors of the aguascalentense press build news values to refer reality in journalistic terms.
