Territorial planning must include different geographical scales, taking into account lessons learned from the past—ranging from authoritarian periods to recent experiences—while also focusing on public participation to address current crises. The article highlights the importance of understanding the interactions between social and spatial organization and underscores the relevance of three types of events (homologous, complementary, and hierarchical) for more effective planning. Finally, the necessity of understanding the relationships between space and place is emphasized, along with the use of recent technical and scientific potentials for more sovereign planning in the Global South.

Ante las crecientes crisis causadas por usos selectivos del territorio que profundizan las desigualdades socioespaciales, es fundamental que la geografía se comprometa con la resolución de problemas y con métodos que consideren relaciones territoriales más complejas. El planeamiento territorial debe integrar diferentes escalas, considerar las lecciones del pasado —desde los períodos autoritarios hasta experiencias más recientes— y centrarse en la participación social para superar las crisis actuales. También se destaca la necesidad de considerar las interacciones entre organización social y espacial, así como los tres tipos de eventos (homólogos, complementarios y jerárquicos) para un planeamiento más eficaz. Por último, se subraya la necesidad de comprender las relaciones entre espacio y lugar, así como de utilizar las recientes potencialidades técnicas y científicas para un planeamiento más soberano en los países del Sur.    O artigo examina como a Geografia Renovada pode aprimorar o planejamento territorial, enfatizando uma crítica a algumas teorias e práticas atuais. Diante das crescentes crises causadas por usos seletivos do território que aprofundam desigualdades socioespaciais, é fundamental que a geografia se comprometa com a resolução de problemas e com métodos que considerem relações territoriais mais complexas. O planejamento territorial deve integrar diferentes escalas, considerar os aprendizados do passado — desde os períodos autoritários até experiências mais recentes — e focar na participação social para superar as crises atuais. Destacam-se, ainda, a necessidade de se considerar interações entre organização social e espacial integradas e dos três tipos de eventos (homólogo, complementar e hierárquico) para um planejamento mais eficaz.
