Descripción
Sumario:The present article investigates public policies for childhood in Brazil through the analysis of the Happy Child Program. The aim is to analyze current public policies for childhood and the implementation of the Happy Child Program in order to inquire about its relationship with early childhood education. The research problem is framed by the following guiding questions: What are the processes of formulating current policies for childhood present in the Happy Child Program? What are the possibilities or inconsistencies contained in the Happy Child Program and its relationship with the role of Early Childhood Education in the country? The research prioritized theoretical and documentary investigation on childhood policies in Brazil. The results highlighted the overlap of the Happy Child Program with other existing policies and actions in the fields of health and social assistance, with a strong alignment with neoliberal principles of reducing the State through low-cost actions, transferring social responsibility to the private sector and civil society, discouragement towards the poor population, and intensification of social control.
