| Sumario: | This article aims to present poetic translations of excerpts from the works of the Latin poets Virgil, Horace, Phaedrus and Martial. In these, the main aesthetic concern was to accommodate the Latin original to a stylistic resource absent in the Latin versification but central in the Portuguese versification: the rhyme. Despite such absence, the adoption of rhyme achieved different effects in each of the translated texts, whether in highlighting rhythmic elements of the original or in bringing together aesthetic elements of the target language. Following each passage, there is a brief commentary in which the motivations or criteria used in each exercise are explained. |
