Descripción
Sumario:Higher education in Brazil has undergone advances in recent decades, but disparities persist, challenging academic equity. Student assistance, essential to confront these inequalities, is exemplified by the National Student Assistance Program - PNAES and the Permanence Grant Program - PBP. This study focuses on the Federal Institute of Sertão Pernambucano - IFSertão-PE, comparing internal data with the Assessment Report of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education - RFEPCT produced by the Public Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Council - CMAP for the year 2021. The article shows that PNAES and PBP, although impactful, face challenges, such as a lack of legislative coordination. Recommendations include the unification of programs, maintenance of targeting criteria, and inclusive strategies. The proposed dialogue aims to improve the effectiveness of student assistance in the democratization of Brazilian higher education.
