Descripción
Sumario:This study aims firstly to examine the position and coexistence of two newer Gospel retranslations (those by Frederico Lourenço (2017) and by Marcelo Musa Cavallari (2020)) in relation to other older translations into Portuguese available. This analysis highlights the main elements of these translators’ approaches to the Gospel’s texts. To do so, we adopt the retranslation concept and its motivations along with some references for the translation of religious texts, emphasizing the criteria used by Lourenço and Cavallari in their retranslations. Besides, we evaluate these retranslations, using the theoretical framework here discussed to demonstrate that both translations have moved themselves away from the traditional approaches to Gospel’s translation, in a process that put them instead closer to the source text, which results in versions that favor new readings of these texts.
