| Resumo: | The aim of this paper is to propose the possibility of understanding melancholy as a hermeneutical paradigm; specifically, we would claim its suitability to analyse first-person literary texts. The work of Jean Starobinski will be the main axe of this proposal –this critical attempt–; we will mainly focus on L'encre de la mélancolie (2021). This capital text would lead us towards other relevant authors, such as Aristotle, Sigmund Freud, Julia Kristeva or Roger Bartra. Our presentation will be divided into three steps. Firstly, we will look into the set of opposite dichotomies that have burdened the concept of melancholy alongside its history. After that, we will dive into the axes of significance of the hermeneutical paradigm we propose: displacement, splitting and excess. We will conclude by an analytical application, leading us to some conclusions on literary critique. |
