In this paper, we analyze and compare both the classical conception of development, and those critical and alternative discourses that participate in the aforementioned debate. In addition, there is an emphasis here on what this discussion has left to Ecuador and what has been possible from here; especially since the implementation of public policies aimed at rethinking and reorienting the development criteria from the bet by Buen Vivir as an alternative model.Desde hace ya varias décadas son muchas las voces que han sometido a un serio cuestionamiento la manera en la que comúnmente se ha comprendido el desarrollo y el progreso humano. Otros han intentado dar un paso más adelante que el de la crítica arriesgándose a plantear alternativas. En este trabajo, se analizan y comparan, tanto la concepción clásica del desarrollo, como aquellos discursos críticos y alternativos que participan del mencionado debate.
