Latin America, with over 500 years of intense experience in this field, has processed a consistent and rich reflection on such issues which, although relatively little impact has been achieved in international academic debates, it would undoubtedly be of great relevance to the consideration of this today growing topic. In this article, we will focus on one of the most interesting theoretical categories developed from Latin América in relation to this problem: the notion of heterogeneity, especially as developed in the work by Antonio Cornejo Polar. It reviews various Peruvian and Latin American authors that, from perspectives sometimes different but generally complementary to that of Cornejo Polar, have worked well the category of heterogeneity.El mundo actual aparece crecientemente signado por la mezcla, superposición, imbricación y coexistencia de culturas. América Latina, con más de 500 años intensos de experiencia en este ámbito, ha procesado una consistente y rica reflexión sobre tal problemática, que si bien ha alcanzado relativamente escaso impacto en los debates académicos internacionales, resultaría sin duda de gran relevancia para el examen de este tema de creciente actualidad. En la presente exposición, centraremos nuestra atención en una de las categorías teóricas más interesantes elaboradas desde Latinoamérica en relación a dicha problemática: la noción de heterogeneidad, en especial tal como fue desarrollada en la obra del peruano Antonio Cornejo Polar.
