Sumario:This paper sustains that between 1990 and 2016, development of tourisim in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, has not improved the living standards of the local population. Thus, through the analisis of statistical official data and theoretical documents, it can be demonstrated that the development of tourisim has not solved the high levels of poverty, unemployment and inequality.
