Resumo:This paper makes explicit the notion of discursive competence and its implications in the teaching of first languages. For such, an effort was made to update the concept of competence, based on the debate about that concept by authors in the recent history of linguistics: from Saussure, Chomsky and Hymes up to Bronckart; authors of other fields were considered too, like the sociologist Perrenoud. An effort was also made to draw the notion of discursive competence closer to the work in textual genres.
