Resumo:The present work describes an innovative method for secondary school students. The objective of the work is to use paleontology to establish relationships between the stratigraphic record (and the geological time) and climate change. In this workshop, students analyzed a hypothetical evidence of fossil records in order to relate them with climate and environmental change, through a playful activity and with an abductive reasoning to make hypotheses. Additionally, previous ideas about these concepts, in 152 students, and the state of knowledge about cognitive-linguistic abilities were described. The generalized conceptions on stratigraphic principles stand out, such as the principle of superposition, and the difficulty in establishing a relationship between climate change and its impact on the fossil record.Keywords: Climate change, Geological time, Education, Paleoclimatology, Stratigraphy.
