| Sumario: | This article addresses the institutionalization of poor children and adolescents in Brazil, examining their relationship with normalization. We analyze the historical background of the institutional reception measure, its authorizing motives and its addressees. The study is qualitative based on data from the socioeconomic and sociodemographic profile of the hostages in the city of Belém in 2015 and 2016. Foucault’s concept of disciplinary power is the north to demonstrate how this institutional culture is backed by the know-how which strengthens the microrelations of domination, already established as a form of control of the popular classes, normalized, to fulfill the political objectives. The emergence of the family neglect category emerges as a reason for institutional acceptance. |
