The research was carried out as conceptions and practices of women's health and the actions of prevention of cervical cancer. Participants were nurses, who were interviewed and observed in patient care. Qualitative data were analyzed by means of Content Analysis and Quantitative by Descriptive Statistics. The results indicate that FHT is a relevant device for linking users and a health team, with emphasis on the role of the agents in the active search of women. However, gaps are not practical in nurses of nurses who do not fit into the collection technique. In addition, there is evidence of preventive actions in the community. It was perceived the need to invest in the training of professionals for the care and coping with this condition of health of the female population.As equipes de Atenção Primária à Saúde têm entre suas atribuições ações de controle ao câncer do colo do útero. Esta pesquisa analisou as concepções e práticas de enfermeiras da Estratégia Saúde da Família (ESF) de um município de pequeno porte, no que tange ao atendimento às mulheres e às ações de prevenção do câncer do colo do útero. Participaram oito enfermeiras, que foram entrevistadas individualmente e observadas em atendimentos às usuárias. Os dados qualitativos foram analisados por meio da Análise de Conteúdo e os quantitativos por estatística descritiva. Os resultados indicaram que a ESF é um dispositivo relevante para a vinculação entre as usuárias e a equipe de saúde, com destaque para o papel das agentes comunitárias na busca ativa das mulheres. Todavia, constataram-se lacunas no conhecimento e nas práticas das enfermeiras no que tange à técnica de coleta. Também se evidenciou escassez de ações de prevenção junto à comunidade.
