The importance of a democratic education that contemplantesdifferent gender identities in its daily practices is highlighted.Neste artigo, discutimos a presença da cisnormatividade em contextos escolares brasileiros. O objetivo do trabalho é refletir sobre como a educação reproduz normas cisgêneras compreendendo a transexualidade e a travestilidade como rompimento desta norma. Para tanto, apresentamos uma breve contextualização histórica, mostrando a relação com os movimentos feministas e LGBTIA+ e explicitamos alguns aspectos do ambiente escolar, que perpassam o processo de subjetivação e violência sofridas por pessoas transexuais e travestis.
