Data analysis was performed based on the identification of points of convergence, that is, the elements that were repeated in direct and indirect observations (audiovisual records), in interviews and in the field notes. Then a comparison was made with what the literature refers to in relation to other categories of spirits. It was found that the so-called gypsy line, from an ethnopsychological point of view, does not add new symbolic content to Umbanda, but rather redirects previously existing meanings in a perspective of the future.El propósito de este artículo es describir la representación de los gitanos en el panteón de Umbanda y las formas características de utilizarlo y el sentido psicológico de su inclusión. Para ello, se realizó una investigación etnográfica y se consultó una base de datos con registros audiovisuales de los rituales umbanda y entrevistas a médiums incorporados y no incorporados por los espíritus gitanos. El análisis de datos se realizó a partir de la identificación de puntos de convergencia, es decir, los elementos que se repitieron en observaciones directas e indirectas (registros audiovisuales), en entrevistas y en el diario de campo. Luego se hizo una comparación con lo que refiere la literatura en relación a las otras categorías de espíritus. Se encontró que la llamada línea gitana, desde un punto de vista etnopsicológico, no agrega nuevo contenido simbólico a Umbanda, sino que redirige significados previamente existentes, en una perspectiva de futuro.O objetivo deste artigo é descrever a representação dos ciganos no panteão umbandista e modos característicos de uso e o sentido psicológico da sua inclusão neste contexto. Para esse efeito foram realizadas pesquisa etnográfica e consulta a banco de dados com registros audiovisuais de rituais umbandistas e entrevistas com médiuns incorporados e não incorporados por espíritos da linha cigana. A análise de dados foi feita a partir da identificação dos pontos de convergência nas observações diretas e indiretas (registros audiovisuais), nas entrevistas e no diário de campo. Em seguida foi feita uma comparação com o que a literatura refere relativamente às outras categorias de espíritos.
