Sumario:This article draws the profile of the formal entrepreneurship in a the city of Aracati in the state of Ceará aiming the perception of characteristics, abilities and enterprising attitudes, highlighting the identification of the micro and small businesses that requested operation permit in the year of 2005; verification of the conditions that preceded the creation of the enterprise; survey of the reasons that motivated the entrepreneur to face the risks of the own business and identification of the main problems faced in the execution of the business. From an amount of 39 businesses that requested operation permit to the Municipal City hall of Aracati/CE in the referred period, 21 were visited. A Great part of the generated businesses is based on the entrepreneurship of needs, in other words, they are not based on the identification of business opportunity and in the search of the innovation to create differentiated businesses, but in the supply of basic needs’ income of the undertakers, so that has subsistence conditions, maintaining himself and the family. It can be inferred that the great majority of the enterprises close down without knowing the reasons for its failure, transferring the responsibility either for the government, or for the economical conjuncture and furthermore for the unfair competition. The enterprising profile can’t be blamed for the end of the businesses, because there are several factors, internal and external, that influence in the business longevity. However, it is evident that the enterprising characteristics from entrepreneur have the better possibilities of success
