| Resumo: | This article analyzes the presence of the New Christians in the Captaincy of Pernambuco during the 16th century. From the denunciations that resulted from the First Visitation of the Inquisition to Brazil, and the presence of the visitor in the aforementioned Captaincy, between the years of 1593 and 1595, one tries to perceive how the surveillance looks on the new Christians by the population of old Christians, since before the arrival of the representative of the court for these lands. Even if relations were built more soft in Portuguese America, compared to the pressures suffered by New Christians in Portugal, surveillance was still present in the daily life of these relations. |
