Through this analysis it will be possible to make sure that Freyre had a contemplative view of Brazil, unlike Holanda, who had a propositive vision.Este artigo pretende compreender o que foi o Brasil nos anos de 1930 através dos textos clássicos de Gilberto Freyre e Sergio Buarque de Holanda. Para tanto, primeiro será apresentada a biografia e as principais influências teóricas dos autores; em seguida, um resumo dos principais objetivos de “Casa Grande e Senzala” e “Raízes do Brasil”; por último, quais as semelhanças e diferenças da tese defendida pelos intelectuais.
