| Resumo: | This article intends to understand what was Brazil in the 1930s through the classic texts of Gilberto Freyre e Sergio Buarque de Holanda. To do so, first their biographies will be presented just as their main theoretical influences, and then a summary of the main goals of “Casa Grande e Senzala” and "Raízes do Brasil”. lastly, will be shown which are the similarities and differences of the thesis defended by intellectuals. Through this analysis it will be possible to make sure that Freyre had a contemplative view of Brazil, unlike Holanda, who had a propositive vision. |
