Sumario:This article points the results of a bibliometric research which had the aim of mapping the profile of academic publication of researchers who works in the nursing field, more specifically in the health and communication area. It was found that, from 1.185 articles identified in five years of research, only 196 (16,5%) were related to the health and communication field; the words such as communication, communicate and communicating were present in 8,2% of its titles and in 11,7% of its descriptors. It was also noted that 83,2% of the studies were published in scientific periodicals and that the annals of scientific events contributed to the diffusion of 16,8% of published studies in this area. The professional-patient and others interpersonal communications were the main thematic approach, with 75% of the published articles in the area of communication and health within the nursing field. The process of teaching people is made by sharing experiences along with technical knowledge. This teaching process is part of the role of a nurse, and because of that it is believed that the approaches training of a health professional (12,7%) and the communication for health educating (9,2%) are present in the analyzed articles.
