Descripción
Sumario:This article aims to analyze the scenario of progress and modernity that was in Montes Claros town, North of Minas Gerais, in the course of the 20th century. Our analysis undertakes efforts on understanding the urban history in the region. For the completion of this work, we had as theoretical basis the studies on history of Cities, books, dissertations and theses produced in recent decades by memoirists, historians or of related areas. In addition to these, we also explore municipal documents, which recorded the search for improvements in the city’s urban and structural aspects, and yet, we have reports of residents of the neighborhood St. Jude, in order to build "a story viewed from below" on the facet of urban development. Therefore, we study the city and one of its main neighborhoods to understand their progress, urbanism and some of the contradictions present in its growth.
