Resumo:The popularization of science is a cultural, reflexive and communicative action that strives, through dialogue, to encourage the involvement of people in discussions of the scientific and technological field. This article will present the results of research on an activity of scientific popularization in the form of workshops with residents of a rural community that began with the query: How does an activity of science popularization, focused on knowledge of physics, contribute to scientific clarification of day-to-day facts in a rural community? The action was based on the concepts of science popularization and on David Ausubel's theory of meaningful learning. Before promoting the workshops, exploratory research was carried out about the concepts of the inhabitants of a rural community of Quilombola people about the themes: safety at work, health, and communication. Based on that, a didactic proposal was built in the format of three workshops, in which the daily situations of this community were approached. The data, collected from the dialogues between the participants and the researchers during the workshops, were gathered through audio recordings and were analyzed according to the assumptions of the Textual Discourse Analysis. The results of the research show that the science popularization action has contributed to scientifically clarify daily facts to the inhabitants of the rural Quilombola community. It was also registered the existence of changes in habits and a better comprehension about the role of science and technology in the daily actions of the residents.
