Descripción
Sumario:Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, known as Sócrates or Doctor Sócrates, was a Brazilian football player. He played for the Brazilian national team between 1979 and 1986, being captain in the 1982 World Cup. He was one of the greatest players of his generation and one of the greatest idols of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. Sócrates also stood out for his critical stance and off-campus political activism. He was one of the leaders of Corinthian Democracy, a movement that took place in the first half of the 1980s. Since his death, in December 2011, several Corinthians’marketing actions have had Sócrates as a central figure. Based on the theoretical references of critical discourse analysis, the study investigates how Corinthians has used the player's image in its communication actions.
