| Resumo: | The reflections presented are based on an examination of the Mato Grosso periodical press, regarding the investigation of aspects related to the role played by this support, in the formatting of intellectual mediators between knowledge and society during the years 1880 to 1920. Journalists, category, at the time, still fluid in professional terms, enjoyed social legitimacy, being linked to the production, circulation and dissemination of values (MICELI, 2001), and are taken as intellectuals "in the sense of the writer or scholar who takes a stand on public issues” (BURKE, 2016, p. 51). Based on a broad conceptualization of intellectuals, as proposed by Jean-François Sirinelli (1998, 2003), professional teachers and educators are included in this investigation. |
