| Resumo: | Red mud is a residue from bauxite mining. A literature review was conducted with applications of this waste in clay bricks. In this context, this paper provides a review of research on the addition of red mud to fired clay bricks. Chemical compositions, materials, and production methods are also discussed. Some brick properties such as linear shrinkage, specific mass, compressive and flexural strength, porosity, and water absorption are reviewed. In addition, the chemical properties of the raw materials are highlighted. The common results among the works surveyed in the literature were grouped and discussed. The reuse of red mud in brick production represents a sustainable way of promoting a circular economy, in which waste can be reused and the exploitation of clay deposits is reduced. The insertion of this waste, in some cases, improves the properties of bricks, as well as representing a productive advantage for the ceramic industry. |
