| Resumo: | In Brazil, since the century XIX, the practice of graphic-sequential reconstruction of facts and crimes was already common procedure in journalism, using experimentally of narrative resources still under development. One of his Brazilian pioneers was the plastic artist and journalistic columnist from Sergipe state, Horácio Hora. Using the still immature reference of the time, Hora manages to produce a complex and detailed comic story reconstituting the so-called Crime da Mala (Suitcase's crime). The social and communicational impact of the publication of his criminal reconstruction influenced all journalism and also Brazilian criminology from the 1880s onwards. The high level of Horácio Hora's work elevated the status of journalistic illustration to the source of historical and social information in Brazil. As a more current effect, Brazilian legislation instituted the position of expert technical designer, as well as the vast majority of Brazilian media outlets have comic artists on their teams, to ensure reliable and intelligible information to their readers, in comic narratives and infographics. |
