Descripción
Sumario:This article is the product of a research carried out within the scope of the Laboratory of Teaching, Research and Extension of Social Sciences of the State University of Maranhão – LEPECS/UEMA, between 2022 and 2024. The objective was to analyze the implementation of the New High School, starting in 2017, in public schools in Maranhão, in the face of the advance of neoliberalism in the country. Inspired by reflexive sociology (Bourdieu, 1998), qualitative and quantitative methodological procedures were adopted, including visits to schools, interviews with sociology teachers and administrators, discussion groups with students, observation at events, documentary, legislative and bibliographic research. The study found that the reforms restrict the place of social sciences, impose a daily juggling act to escape exclusion, triggering processes of resistance and mobilization in the face of challenges.
