Descrição
Resumo:This article aims to explore the opportunities and challenges of rural tourism in the municipality of Apodi (RN) with regard to possible interfaces between family farming and tourism, under the aegis of the PRT (Programme for the Regionalization of Tourism) and PRONAF (National Programme to Support Family Farming). This involved , besides collecting and analysing this data, semi-structured interviews were carried out with interlocutors involved in the development of tourism and family farming. The results showed that PRONAF has contributed to the development of the rural population and improved quality of life, especially for those in receipt of land grants through Agrarian Reform. On the other hand, the PRT’s initiatives have not been adopted as a strategy to develop local tourism, nor were regionally integrated tourism programmes involving Apodi (RN) in evidence. It was also noted that the mobilization of local civil society organisations has the potential to exercise a favourable influence on joint policy initiatives for tourism and family farming. Therefore there are grounds to believe that rural tourism in Apodi (RN) could be promoted on the basis of the experience of agrarian reform land grants, with a view to exchanges between locals and vistors, who would come in greater numbers in order to gain knowledge and cultural appreciation of the countryside.
