Resumo:The paper studies the traits that define human self-consciousness. It goes over the evolutionary continuity that is recorded in the emergence of man as a species. It tries to establish the bases in order to make compatible the graduality that exists in the origin and functioning of self-consciousness with the metaphysical discontinuity that exists between it and the naturalizable forms of consciousness, whose characteristics are the object of acomparative study.
