Attention is drawn to the risk of contamination of venous pathway, in particular that used in control and replacement of CVP; measures for the preventing and treatment of sepsis caused by venous catheter are also listed.Se revisan retrospectivamente las historias de pacientes sépticos internados, en un Centro de Tratamiento Intensivo polivalente encontrando que 13 % (7,7 % de los sépticos) fueron causadas por un procedimiento invasivo endovenoso. Este grupo de pacientes presentó las mismascaracterísticas clínicas de los pacientes sépticos en general y una mortalidad del 64 %. El agente patógeno fue Estafilo dorado patógeno en el 61 %, E. Coli en el 3'0 %, monilias en el 8 % de los casos.
