Description
Summary:The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Illness Perception Questionnaire-Revised (IPQ-R) in Mexican patients with asthma. A sample was obtained for convenience of 315 adults who answered an evaluation battery. The results show that the IPQ-R has an identity scale with 16 symptoms, scale of causes with 21 options and a group of subscales in which four factors are grouped and three indicators with alpha values ranging from 0.591 to 0.874, with a KMO = 0.809 and a total explained variance of 51.611%. Evidences of convergent and divergent validity are included with adherence, beliefs about medications and asthma control variables. It is concluded that the IPQ-R is a reliable and valid instrument for the evaluation of beliefs about the disease in Mexican adults with asthma.
