Descrição
Resumo:Epilepsy is defined by two or more unprovoked seizures, these seizures are brief episodes of involuntary movements that can affect a part of the body or the whole, they are due to excessive electrical discharges of brain cells (neurons) that can occur in different parts of the brain. In the present project evaluated the extraction of secondary metabolites of Mentha piperita and Mentha poleo as protective agents against epilepsy. The plants were subjected to maceration with water until extracts were obtained, the presence of secondary metabolites was analyzed by qualitative and quantitative tests, the extracts were used for in vivo models tests with induction of pentylenetetrazole (PTZ); They were divided into 5 groups of 5 male mice each, clonazepam 1 mg/kg, carbamazepine 100 mg/kg, Mentha piperita 200 mg/kg, Mentha poleo 200 mg/kg and saline were administered, after 1h of administering the treatments were he proceeded to induction with PTZ to observe its behavior for 30 min. The extracts presented phenols, flavonoids and tannins these metabolites are of pharmacological interest with neuroprotective effects
