We will use Frédéric de Waldeck’s journey through Yucatan as an example, using two types of documents: his text, Voyage pittoresque et archeologique dans la province d’Yucatan (Amerique Centrale), pendant les années 1834 et 1836, and the paintings and engravings that he produced during his trip.El objeto del presente artículo es explicar el vínculo que existe entre una determinada concepción del arte y de la ciencia en los llamados “viajes pintorescos”, muy de moda desde mediados del siglo XVIII hasta la primera mitad del XIX.
