| Sumario: | As part of the Contested Cities project, one of the research lines concerns the transformations of public markets. It explores how their various transformations affect the urban space, as well as their role as sources of supply to wealthy and educated consumers, and in the promotion of cities. We worked in several areas of cities such as Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Madrid, Leeds, London, and Mexico City. The methodology consisted of the review of the public speeches delivered by the mayor of Alvaro Obregon during 2015–2017, as well as fieldwork involving the application of 18 semi-structured interviews with market owners, regular customers, and district authorities. |
