A self developed survey was applied to the owners or managers of SMEs on Sustainable Development practices focused on energy management,on a representative sample of more than 200 SME in theregion. The first outcomes found were that a third of the SMEs interviewed carry out sustainable energymanagement practices in a systematic way, in addition to finding an association with those SMEs that carry out these practices and in turn implement their own research and development, apply innovation, inaddition to they belong to an external group and a high level of education of the entrepreneur.En este trabajo presentamos una investigación inicial sobre las prácticas de las pequeñas y medianas empresas de Jalisco, México referente a las políticas sobre su gestión energética sustentable. Partiendo de la filosofía de cambio y desarrollo organizacional sostenible, la responsabilidad social empresarial, el ámbito ambiental del desarrollo sostenible y las exigencias del mercado global. Se aplicó un cuestionario de desarrollo propio a los dueños o encargados de las PYME sobre prácticas de Desarrollo Sustentable enfocados a la gestión energética, sobre una muestra representativa de más de 200 empresas de la región.
