Resumo:Natividad is a municipality in the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca that emerged and developed around the mining of gold and silver. Therefore, the objective of the article is to show the diversification of work activities aimed at obtaining a livelihood in a mining community located in the mountains. To achieve the objective, two life experiences of people who live in Natividad and who, at some point in their life, had a working relationship with the mining company are presented. The information was obtained from semi-structured interviews conducted between 2011 and 2015 in the municipality. The main results that are reached is the importance of multi-activities in the work environment, which generates diversification to obtain a livelihood and, in turn, better support the lack or cancellation of the main source of income. Finally, it is concluded that the mine is a direct and indirect driver in the various ways of obtaining of livelihood.
