| Resumo: | Historical analysis about Yucatán landowners have focused on the oligarchy, particularly during the great epoch o f sisal harvesting. But we know little about smaller scale landowners and their corresponding haciendas. This paper presents a first approach to this unknown group in the period when haciendas began to develop in Yucatán, at the end of the eighteenth century and at the beginning of nineteenth century. We will outline their general characteristics and identify their strategies including some of their individual careers. |
