Sumario:Morphophysiology in reptiles is different in comparison with other species and between them, manifestations of pain in these species that are not obvious to people. Actually, a great part of practitioners lacks of enough knowledge to evaluate pain behavior in reptiles, this is partially because there is not enough research on the subject. The aim of this review is to realize systematic research about pain identification and evaluation through physical and behavioral changes in reptiles. A bibliographic research was made using commands constituted by words related to pain and reptiles connected by Boolean Operators. The search resulted in 751 articles, 44 were included in the analysis and the rest didn`t approved the inclusion criteria or their methods were identified like exclusions, some review articles were used too. Two different pain study models were observed to evaluate it in all the reptiles groups. (withdrawal time to thermal stimulus and chemical irritant injection) also, some experimental researches were mentioned some behavior changes associated with pain in reptiles, for example changes in body posture and made distinction between different species. At last, other review articles were used too. Probably considered a single method for evaluation of pain in reptiles would be insufficient with the evidence that are published nowadays. Due most sources mention comparison with normal behaviors, elaborate ethograms of individual or group (for captive species) during a pain-free period could be useful for keepers to identify periods of discomfort, however, more studies are needed to ensure correlation between pain and behaviors.
