A compilation of location, size, and geomorphological parameters of volcanoes of the Michoacán - Guanajuato Volcanic Field, Central Mexico

Over one-thoμsand small volcanic centers have been catalogued from the Michoacán-Guanajuato Vólcanic Field, which is in the middle part of the Mexican Volcanic Belt. Catalogued volcanoes include: 901 cinder or lava eones, 43 domes, 22 maars or tuffrings, 13 shield volcanoes with eones at the summit,...

Descrição
Resumo:Over one-thoμsand small volcanic centers have been catalogued from the Michoacán-Guanajuato Vólcanic Field, which is in the middle part of the Mexican Volcanic Belt. Catalogued volcanoes include: 901 cinder or lava eones, 43 domes, 22 maars or tuffrings, 13 shield volcanoes with eones at the summit, and 61 lava flows notassociated with eones. These volcanoes distribute between 200 km and 430 km from the Middle America Trench without fonning preferred alignment, and the highest concentration is at 250 km. Among catalogued morphological indicators of cinder cone age, gully density and geomorphological classification of lava flows are sensitive within the 14c age detennination limit. Seventy-eight volcanoes wete classified to be morphologically younger than 40 000 years B.P. and their volume is 31 km3 ; thése figures yield an eruption volume rate of 0.8 km3/l 000 years for the entire volcanic field.
