| Resumo: | This article discusses the meaning and the historical development of the concept of Mesoamerica through a study of some of the ideas that made up its original source of inspiration. A concept different from the traditional definition of Mesoamerica, as originally formulated in 1943, is presented and its actual importance is emphasized, an importance which is due to a redynamization of some of its constituent features and the application of combined historical and neoevolutionist viewpoints. |
