| Resumo: | The six decades that elapsed between 1640 and 1700 opened a new war situation in Catalonia that especially affected the kingdom of Aragon. The situation on the occasion of the Catalan rebellion of 1640 forced the Crown to intensify the demand for its contributions and services to the different territories that made it up. The geostrategic situation of Aragon, with borders with France and Catalonia at the same time, and the management of the French chancellery aggravated the political situation that existed in the Catalan Principality until 1652. The wars in Catalonia, between 1667 and 1697, with Charles II of Spain, had a severe impact on the socio-economic situation of Aragon for their economic and military contributions, while the Aragonese elites had assumed since the middle of the century the proposals of defence of their borders and of the Spanish Monarchy itself as their own. |
