| Resumo: | We shall trace in this pages just one of the paths followed by the Devil, namely the one that, borrowing inspiration from a Greek text worded by a Eutiquiano, disciple of Teophilus (VI century), after being transmitted by the Latin version written by Paul the Deacon (VIII century) and then copied (following centuries), with few variants, into several Latin collections of miracles, finally made its arrival to the Romance world. It first touched the French dominion (Gautier de Coinci) and, a few years later, the Spanish one (Gonzalo de Berceo), where it successively found different echoes at different times before reaching its XV century epigone, the Libro de los exemplos por ABC by Sánchez del Vercial. |
