Palencia was visited by Ferdinand VII in 1828, the first and only visit by an incumbent of the Bourbon dynasty in the Ancien Régime. These events were propaganda tools in the service of royalty that served to strengthen their bond with their subjects, but also for the urban oligarchies (Council and Cathedral Chapter) to prove their loyalty to the Crown. The complex organization and meticulous staging of the ceremony and festivities give an idea of the enormous deployment of human and technical resources carried out by the authorities, taking into account the economic outlay, the expenditure of which had a negative impact on the public purse.Las visitas reales son, sin duda, las celebraciones públicas que mayor impacto tuvieron en los territorios de la Monarquía, pues la presencia física de los monarcas en las ciudades más alejadas de la corte era poco frecuente. Palencia contó con la visita de Fernando VII en 1828, la primera y única realizada por un titular de la dinastía Borbón en el Antiguo Régimen. Estos acontecimientos eran instrumentos propagandísticos al servicio de la realeza que se empleaban para fortalecer su vínculo con los súbditos, pero también para que las oligarquías urbanas (concejo y cabildo de la catedral) demostraran su lealtad a la Corona. La compleja organización y minuciosa puesta en escena del ceremonial y los festejos ofrece una idea del enorme despliegue de medios humanos y técnicos llevados a cabo por las autoridades, teniendo en cuenta el desembolso económico, cuyo dispendio repercutía negativamente en el erario público.Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de NavarraDadun.
