An audit has been conducted which shows that this paper, submitted by Damia Barcelo and colleagues was handled appropriately and was subject to several rounds of independent peer review which were supervised by another of the journal's Editors, Adrian Covaci. Unfortunately, an administrative oversight in the publishing process meant that the correct handling editor's name was not published for this article and that a statement explaining that the paper had been handled independently was not published as a footnote to the article.
