Sumario:The Spanish Central System (SCS) is an intraplate mountain range located in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula, and consists, for the most part, of piutonic and metamorphic rocks belonging to the Hercynian basement and a locally preserved thin cover of Upper Cretaceous sedimentary rocks. The Cretaceous materials located at the southern boundary defines a monoclinal structure as consequence of the vertical displacement of faults located on the bedrock below (the hercynian basement). The large vertical displacement (> 1.500 m) of these high-angle reverse faults produces the inversion of the sedimentary beds located on the monoclinal limb and/or the cutoff of these beds. In this paper we show that on the lower part of the monoclinals are abundant microstructures (e.g. reverse faults, duplex, small fault propagation folds, etc.) that indicates compression, and on the upper part of the monoclinals lack these structures
