Description
Summary:The construction of the fields in a centurized system. The application of geoarchaeology in the century of Ilici (Elche, Alicante)· The centuriatio of Ilici (Elche, Alicante) is one of the best preserved examples of a Roman limitatio, an orthogonal division of the land following a 20 x 20 actus module. This article presents, on the one hand, the historical and archaeological data relating to this centuriatio, and on the other the results of several geoarchaeological cores carried out by our team at the ager Ilicitanus. These works have made possible to identify the setting-up of the centuriate system, and analyze the changes that the implantation had in the configuration of the agrarian structure of the alluvial plain where the colony was founded.
