Descrição
Resumo:[EN] The extensive and successful restoration work of the Alhambra carried out by its architect-director, Leopoldo Torres Balbás, between 1923 and 1936, has been the subject of notable research. However, his activity in Granada has only been studied in some specific monuments, lacking a comprehensive overview. His intervention in Al-Andalus buildings in the city began in 1927, two years before he was appointed conservator architect of the monuments of the VI Zone, and lasted until his dismissal in 1936. His management was always very proactive, as he used the proceeds from entrance fees to the Alhambra to purchase and restore the five most notable Al-Andalus buildings in the city, which were at risk of ruin or demolition: El Bañuelo, Corral del Carbón, Casa del Chapiz, Daralhorra, and Casa de los Girones. All of these are examined in this study, analysing the restoration projects and comparing them with the executed works. Thus, it is possible to observe the successes achieved through interventions with very discreet means, as well as the contradictions between general theoretical principles and the reality of each case, which necessitates a tailored approach.
