With it the monarchy hoped to end more than a century of what was called “the Morisco question.” In this article we will analyze the positions of the political and religious authorities, and the factors that led to the solution that was finally found: the forced displacement of an entire religious and social group.[ES] Entre 1609 y 1614, unos 300.000 moriscos fueron expulsados de España, obligados a salir de la península principalmente por los puertos mediterráneos con destino al Norte de África. Fue una deportación masiva, realizada con la ayuda de las galeras y naves de la armada y organizada rigurosamente por el aparato burocrático de la Monarquía. Con ello, la Corona esperaba poner fin a algo más de un siglo de lo que se llamaba “la cuestión morisca”.
