| Sumario: | [EN] The spiral staircases assumed a fundamental role in the construction process of the Seville cathedral and once the height of the terraces was reached, after closing the vaults, they took on an important role in the exterior appearance of the building, emulating small spires, lanterns, pinnacles and domes. A formal repertoire in which we can perceive the evolution of these architectural elements. In this article we propose a formal and constructive analysis of these stairs, following the peculiar way in which this Gothic factory was built, from the foot to the head and how new models are introduced in the Renaissance period. We will identify its typological variants, its ability to become functional elements, represent meanings, as well as become effective chronological indicators. |
